The Tishman Review’s 2018 Edna St. Vincent Millay Poetry Prize: DEADLINE EXTENDED

The Tishman Review’s Edna St. Vincent Millay Poetry Prize is open to writers, worldwide, from new to established. The contest is judged blind.

PLEASE REMOVE ALL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION FROM MANUSCRIPT, FILE NAME AND DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR NAME IN THE TITLE. You will be automatically disqualified if you leave identifying information on your entry.

Current students of the final judge are DISQUALIFIED from entering this contest.

Submissions will be welcome from October 1, 2017 to November 15, 20, 2017.

Poems must be written in English (no translations).

The Tishman Review’s January 2018 must be a potential first publication for all works submitted. No previously published works, or works accepted for publication elsewhere. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but we must be notified immediately if any poems are accepted elsewhere.

Please submit a cover letter in the Comments section on our Submittable page with the following information: Your name, address, email address, phone number, and the titles of the poems with corresponding page numbers.

Include the poems themselves (with titles and page numbers) on subsequent pages, with each poem beginning a new page. No identifying personal information should appear on any pages with poems.

Entry fees are non-refundable. Send between three and five poems per entry. There is no line-limit. Poems may be any length, any style, or any subject. Please, no translations for the contest. Multiple entries by a single poet are accepted, however each group of three to five poems must be treated as a separate entry, each with its own cover sheet and an additional $15 fee.

Winners will be announced by January 30, 2018.

First place wins $500 and publication in the January 2018 issue.

All submissions will be considered for possible publication. Your submission gives consent to publish selected poems in future issues. Please see our website for details on rights.

The Tishman Review is pleased to announce the 2018 Edna St. Vincent Millay Poetry Prize Final Judge is the award-winning poet Major Jackson.

Major Jackson is the author of four collections of poetry, including Roll Deep, which won the 2016 Vermont Book Award and was hailed in the New York Times Book Review as a remixed odyssey. His other volumes include Holding Company, Hoops, and Leaving Saturn, which won the Cave Canem Poetry Prize and was a finalist for a National Book Critics Circle Award. Jackson has published poems, essays, and book reviews in American Poetry Review, Callaloo, The New Yorker, The Paris Review, Ploughshares, Poetry, Tin House, New York Times Book Review, and in several volumes of Best American Poetry. A recipient of a Whiting Writers Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Pushcart Prize, Pew Fellowships in the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, among other honors, he is the Richard A. Dennis Green & Gold Professor at the University of Vermont. Jackson is a core faculty member of the Bennington Writing Seminars.
